I finally made it,
One of my two days is now complete and boy my feet are tired. I probably walked several miles today. It is at least one mile from my hotel to the convention center and there are miles and miles of floor space that we had to cover to make it to all the booths. This is a great workout for those that need it.
I was able to make it to several booths today and I saw some exciting new technology. The theme this year seems to be big TVs and portable media players.
Several of the bigger companies like Samsung, Panasonic and LG Electronics all featured huge TVs. Panasonic had the largest Plasma TV, it is 103 inches. That is one huge TV. They also had a wall of TVs that was cool to see. I don’t think anyone would complain about having that in there living room. Samsung had the largest LCD TV, this one is 81 inches. LG Electronics also had a plasma TV but they missed the biggest mark by one inch. Their Plasma TV is 102 inches.
The other big product that everyone seems to have is portable media players. There were companies as big as LG Electronics and Samsung down to companies that you have probably never heard of, like Cobra Digital and Altrasonic all had their own versions of a portable media player. Some were obviously better than others but they all looked great and are going to be excellent additions to anyone’s collection. Some of the cool features that we can all expect to see are: the ability to record from your TV, play MPEG-4, MP3 and just about everything else, sizes ranging from fit in the palm of your hand to the size of a small laptop.
One of the most interesting portable devices was from Altrasonic. It is a multifunction device that can be a DVD player, GPS navigation, or TV. All this is done with the same Case (screen and cover) but you slide in different modules in the system to provide the different functionality. This kind of design keeps you from having to lug around multiple devices, instead you only need different modules.
I also made it over to the Honda booth. No, they were not showing off the latest Civic. They were showing off their robot Asimo. This was a really exciting show to watch. Robotic technology has come a long way.
For those of you that are interested in pimping out your ride, CES has several large displays of car audio products and funky designs. It is not enough anymore to have a sweet sound system. Now you need to have LCD monitors everywhere, including in the trunk, inside the door and in the dashboard. If that is not enough for you then there was one car that had a waterfall in it, that’s right, a waterfall. In addition to a cool sound system they had running water pouring from the lid of the trunk.
I know I have not included any pictures yet. It is 1 o’clock in the morning right now and I want to go to bed so that I can see more stuff tomorrow. I will get the pictures posted as soon as I can, probably tomorrow or Sunday.
Thank you all for visiting and come back tomorrow night for another update from CES.
