Another day, another set of great companies and products.

Today I spent the entire day at the Sands. This is a satellite location for the CES convention and is home to some great technology. The Sands does not have the biggest companies like Dell, Panasonic or Samsung, but the Sands is where you will find the smaller more innovative companies.

Companies like Commodore, yes the same company that made the Commodore 64, Think Outside, X2 and many, many more.

Just like yesterday the theme at the Sands seemed to be portable media players and Media centers. Not everyone had them but there were quite a few. Companies like Commodore, X2, OPCOM, and HandHeld Entertainment all had Portable Media Players. They all varied slightly with features and design but they all seemed to be promising. We are arranging to get some review units so please come back soon and check out the products as we review them.

The Commodore Portable media Player is a little more unique then the others because it is a Media Player, GPS, and Gaming device all in one.

There were also several other companies that I visited that were not offering portable media players. They include LUX Entertainment, SpeechGear, EMA Innovation, iRobot and TDV.

LUX Entertainment is offering a new entertainment center of the outside. With this all inclusive system you get a 26″ LCD-HD TV and two marine-grade speakers all in a stand that can be used indoors or out. There are two versions of this system. One with a build in DVD player and one without, both have a cable connector so you can get a TV signal.

SpeechGear is offering a line of translation products. The two that I would like to focus on right now are the Compadre: Interact and the Compadre: Camera. The Interact is a custom table PC that is loaded up with special translation software that is able to hear what you speak and translate it and play it back into one of many languages. Then it can hear what the other person is speaking and translate that back into your language. Granted, it is not going to get all the grammar correct, that is not its purpose. The Interact is only suppose to get your message across in a fashion that the other person can understand. The Camera has the ability to take pictures of signs, menus and other things in a different language and instantly translate what is in the picture into your language.

EMA Innovation is offering a very unique chair for computer users and gamers. This chair will hold the monitor, keyboard and a small form factor chassis, like the mac mini. It can also hold a PlayStation and controllers. The chair itself can move forward and backwards, tilt, and vibrate. The monitor holder can also tilt and move up and down. All this is controlled by some easy to access switches that are on the side of the chair. This looks to be a very unique product but watch out if it is too comfortable you may fall asleep when you are trying to work.

If you have been following technology news lately you have probably heard of iRobot, no not the movie, iRobot is the maker of the Roomba and Scooba Robotic house cleaners. The Roomba is a vacuuming robot. You can schedule it to work when you are not home and it is smart enough to maneuver around objects like a couch and entertainment center. The Scooba is a hard floor cleaner. It has all the same features as the Roomba except that this one mops instead of vacuum.

We also visited TDVision. TDVision make software and chips for powering 3-D glasses. These are not your standard polarized or red/blue 3-D glasses. These glasses are more like a head set with mini TVs in them. We were able to demo the product and let me tell you I am excited. They showed us a short movie of a roller coaster that was shot with a 3-D camera. When you watch it with there glasses you can actually feel the movement of the coaster and I found myself leaning into the turns. There are a lot great applications for this type of product including, but not limited to, movies and games. I cannot wait until they come to market with something because I would love to play my favorite game in 3-D.
