In a world of portable electronics, portable power is very important. How many times have you been away from home and had your cell phone or MP3 player run out of juice? It happens to me more often than I like. Having a way to charge those devices, while on the road, would be extremely helpfuful. The Fueltank from Chargepod is a portable power pack that can be used to charge up any number of different devices.
Features
- Rechargeable power for two devices simultaneously
- Indicator lights display battery capacity level
- Charge your devices multiple times without refueling
- Weighs less than 8 ounces and is perfect for traveling
- Works with thousands of mobile devices such as iPods, cell phones, Bluetooth headsets, PDAs, digital cameras, navigation units, mp3 players, digital readers and portable gaming systems
- Uses the same device adapters as Chargepod
There are two mini power ports on one end of the Fueltank that accept the Callpod adapters. These are the same adapters that the Chargepod uses. This is nice because if you already have a Callpod you don’t have to spend money on new ones.
With the help of these same adapters the Fueltank is compatible with thousands of devices. If you go onto the Callpod website you can see the full list of adapters.
Depending on how much power the devices needs there may be enough power in the Fueltank to charge them more than once.
The Fueltank comes with a single mini USB adapter, carrying bag, and a power cable. The mini USB adapter can be used to charge any device that accepts a mini USB connector. I have several devices including a GPS and MP3 player that take a mini USB connector. The carrying bag is useful for storing everything in one place, but it is really small and won’t fit much more than the Fueltank, power cord, and a couple adapters.
Design
The Fuel Tank has a very simple design. It is a silver rectangle with a big black stripe down the middle. The Fueltank measures 3.4 inches tall by 4.9 inches wide by 0.72 inch deep and weighs 7.3 ounces.
One one end are the two charging ports which accept adapters for things like phones, gaming devices, or just about anything else. Since there are only two charging ports can only charge two devices at the same time. As each adapter is plugged in a small blue light turns on.
Only charging two devices was not good enought for me so, after doing a little fiddling, I was able to get the ChargePod to attach to the Fueltank. The ChargePod would then allow me to charge as many devices as I wanted. The only problem with this setup is that the battery in the Fueltank will drain very quickly.
The other end has a single mini USB port for charging the Fueltank and a button. The button turns on the power meter, which tells you how full the Fueltank is. The button can be pressed at any time, but it must be held down.
When the Fueltank is plugged in and charging a small green light turns on.
Performance
It takes about 2.5 hours to fully charge the Fueltank using the included AC adapter. I also noticed that none of my devices charged any faster than normal, but I didn’t expect them to.
I was able to charge several devices using a fully charged Fueltank. I charged a DS lite, Sandisk Sansa MP3 player, and a Samsung MP3 player. Even after all three of those devices were fully charged there was still a little power left.
Support and Warranty
The Fueltank comes with a 1 year warranty. Considering this has a battery it is not surprising.
Conclusion
The Fueltank is a great device. It serves a great purpose that is useful for anyone that carries around portable electronics. If you are on the go a lot and you find yourself running out of power, you may want to consider the Fueltank as it may give you the extra power you need.
