Cell phones have become an important part of our lives and it is necessary to have quick access to them at all times. For this reason, I have been looking for a car mount for my Droid Incredible ever since I got it. Car mounts are a dime a dozen, but finding one that fits my phone without blocking the USB port or buttons was difficult. Then I ran across the Arkon Universal mount. The Arkon Universal mount not only allows access to all the buttons and the USB port on my phone, but it also provides multiple ways to attach it to my car.
- Windshield, Dashboard, and Vent Mount
- Universal Holder fits Most Smartphones & PDAs
- Easy to install
- No tools required
This mount comes with three ways to attach it to your car. The three ways are Windshield, Dashboard, and Vent. I appreciated the options because not everyone is going to want to mount the holder in the same place.
The Universal holder is probably the most important part. It is the part that hods the phone, and it has to hold the pone securely, but also provide access to all the phones functions.
The mount is very easy to install. All you have to do is pick which one of the three mounts you are going to use, then attach it to your car, and then attach the universal holder to the mount.
The design of the Arkon Universal mount is very simple. The entire thing is made out of black plastic and the arms of the cradle have some foam on them to protect the phone from getting scratched. The arms of the mount open by pressing a button on the bottom left of the mount. This allows phones of may sizes to fit inside.
The windshield mount is very standard, it has a large suction cup at one end and curves around to a connector at the other. The connector is where the universal holder attaches. The Windshield mount is nice because it puts the holder right up close and in easy view. However, in some states it is not legal to mount things on the window, so this may not be useful to everyone.
The dashboard mount uses the same windshield mount, but instead of sticking to the glass, it sticks to a round disk that is attached to your dash. This way gets past the illegal part of the windshield mount, and does not block your view as much, but I am not a fan of sticking things to my dash, so I did not choose this either.
The vent mount is the method I ended up choosing for my car. It consists of a set of claws that clasp onto the vent of your car. This way does not block your view, it does not require attaching anything to the dash, yet the holder is still very easy to see and in easy reach.
I have been using this mount for about a month now and I have not found any major problems. The main issue I have is with how difficult it is to open and close the claws for the vent attachment, so I just leave it connected.
I have not used the windshield or dash mount, but they look just like every other windshield and dash mount that I have seen and I expect that they would work the same also.
What I really like is the adjustable arms on the holder so that it can hold any size of phone. I also really like the quick release button and the soft padding on the inside of the adjustable arms. The holder keeps my phone very safe and I have no concern about it falling out or being damaged.
Support and Warranty
The Arkon Universal holder comes with a 90 Day Limited Warranty, but considering I only paid $15 for the whole setup I cannot complain.
After a long search I am really happy with the Arkon Universal holder and mounts. They keep my phone in easy reach and view, don’t block any buttons or slots, and protect my phone from getting damaged. If you are looking for a holder for your phone I highly recommend the Arkon Universal holder.
